Artist Statement

As a multimedia artist trained in mindfulness, my work explores the intricate relationship between the creative process and the principles of mindfulness. I believe that art is not just a product but a journey, an exploration of the self and the world around us. Each piece I create is infused with the intention of fostering presence, awareness, and deep connection to the moment.

In April 2024, I underwent emergency brain surgery, an experience that profoundly shifted my perspective on life and mortality. This introspective journey has deepened my understanding of the fragility of existence and the importance of living fully in the present. As I navigate my recovery, I am increasingly drawn to explore intuitive art practices, allowing unfiltered emotion and instinct to flow into my work.

Before my diagnosis, I navigated my physical pain through drawing, using it as a means to process my experiences and emotions. Post surgery I find the images created during this time to be both profound and enlightening; they reveal layers of understanding my conscious mind was at the time unable to comprehend. This reflective practice planted the seeds for my current interest in intuitive art, where spontaneity and instinct guide creative expression.

My practice encompasses diverse mediums, enabling me to investigate the multitude of ways in which creativity can manifest. From visual art to interactive installations and process driven workshops, I aim to engage the participant not just visually, but also emotionally and spiritually. Each artistic endeavour serves as an invitation to cultivate mindfulness—encouraging attention to detail, presence in experience, and an openness to the unfolding process.

Through my artistic practice, I strive to illuminate the parallels between creating art and practicing mindfulness. Both require patience, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. In my work, I explore how being fully present can enhance creativity, allowing for new perspectives and deeper insights.

I seek to create a space where art becomes a transformative tool—one that encourages reflection, evokes emotion, and ultimately fosters a sense of community. As I continue to navigate my journey as an artist, I remain committed to delving into the rich interplay between creativity and mindfulness, inviting others to join me in this exploration of connection, discovery, and the beauty of life’s impermanence.
